The Kegwa factory is located 3 km from Kiamutugu Town, 2 hours Northeast of Nairobi. The factory is part of Ngiriambu Farmers Cooperative Society which currently has more than 3500 active farmer members. The name Kegwa comes from Kigwa, the Kikuyu word for sugarcane, the main crop produced in the region. The European missionaries were unable to pronounce Kigwa, and then the name stuck.

This particular coffee is a peaberry. Coffee cherry normally contains two seeds that grow flat together. But in the case of peaberry, cherry only contains a single seed, hence the size is smaller and shape is rounder. It’s denser mouthfeel and balanced acidity is why we thnk it’s great as espresso!
